One of our favorite things about Cameron’s house is its proximity to 12 South. If you’ve ever been to Nashville, you’re probably familiar with this area from the “I Believe In Nashville” sign. While it is a fun place to check out while you’re visiting, the 12 South area has much more to offer. It has become the one-stop place to live, socialize, eat, drink, and shop. Stylish boutiques, contemporary restaurants, charming coffee shops and beautifully renovated homes are all within walking distance.

This idea of a “walkable” 12 South community is nothing new. In fact, the layout can be traced back to the neighborhood’s origin in the 1930’s. Even back then, the area was a self-sufficient commercial district complete with churches, schools, grocery stores, drugstores, gas stations, meat and threes, bookstores and more. Though the area is rapidly growing, many of the original buildings still exist today.

Last Sunday morning, we finally had some down time to stroll over to some of our favorite 12 South spots. We started our morning at Frothy Monkey, which is one of my all-time FAVORITE Nashville breakfast and coffee spots. We love to pick up Frothy Monkey and have a picnic in the beautiful Sevier Park.

Then we wandered over to White’s Mercantile to pick up a wedding gift for a friend. The store has been deemed “the general store for the modern-day tastemaker.” It’s located in a reclaimed gas station on the south end of 12th Avenue. It’s my go-to place for unique gifts for nearly any occasion.

We topped the morning off by picking up some fresh produce at the Farmer’s Market. Having a market within walking distance from the house reminds us of being in Italy! We also purchased delicious South Carolina peaches and some beautiful sunflowers from Amelia’s Flower Truck.

Some of my other 12 South top picks include Bartaco, Las Paletas, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams (a MUST), 12 South Taproom and Judith Bright Jewelry. Wherever you find yourself in the area, you’re in for a treat. Thanks for reading! Xo
