Hi friends!! I am SO excited to reveal our stock tank pool with you guys. We have been slowly but surely redoing our backyard all summer in between trips, and this has been our favorite project yet.
My friends from Hey Wanderer were some of the first bloggers to create a stock tank pool DIY. They helped us with the whole project since they had made one before. If you aren’t following them, you totally should be! I LOVE their unique, bohemian-inspired decor style and their house is just the cutest. They documented the whole process of installing our stock tank from start to finish.
How did we decide on pink and white stripes, you ask?? Truthfully I just wanted to do something different that felt like me! There are tons of stock tank pools floating around the internet and we went back and forth on how we wanted ours to look. I originally wanted to do some kind of stencil or a pretty aqua color like this, but nothing was quite the vibe we were looking for. Savannah suggested stripes and all of our minds immediately went to PINK. I had to be sure Cam was cool with it, and he was totally on board. Get you a husband who supports you even when you want to paint things around the house pink. 😉
Casey and Savannah created a whole website/blog for stock tank pools here and here is a blog post on how to paint the stripes. They have answered every question you might have about building a stock tank pool! They are truly the experts on it, but I thought I would answer a few questions below!
WHAT IS A STOCK TANK POOL?
I got this question so much when I first started posting stories about this project! Haha it’s basically just a small above ground pool made out of a stock tank. (Yes, like what cows and horses drink out of.) It is an alternative to the cheaper kiddie and more expensive above-ground pools… plus it adds appeal to your yard or outdoor space. You can totally customize them to fit your personal style! I love how Ashley from Arrows and Bow painted hers.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO BUILD ONE?
The total cost ended up being around $600 for ours. The majority of that cost comes from the $300 stock tank.
HOW BIG IS IT?
Ours is an 8ft stock tank that is 2ft deep. I would say comfortable you could fit 4 people in there.
HOW DO YOU KEEP IT CLEAN?
You install a pump and keep it clean with chlorine like you would any other pool. Ours sits under a tree so we also use a net to get leaves and debris out. We’re currently on the hunt for a cover that fits.
ARE YOU TAKING IT TO YOUR NEW HOUSE?
Yes! Another great thing about stock tanks is that you can easily transport them. If you decide to move, you can take your tank pool with you to the next place. We will be taking up all of our patio furniture from Simply Patio and pool set-up to our new house for sure.
