STRAW HAT (SIMILAR) // PLATFORM SANDALS // SUNGLASSES
I’m alllll about mixing prints lately. It was a little too chilly to wear this adorable gingham romper on its own so I layered it with this super affordable cherry print tee, complete with puffy sleeves and a cut-out back. It’s such a fun and playful print that I’ve been able to style so many different ways. With warmer temperatures (hopefully!) just around the corner, now is a good time as any to start replacing your winter neutrals with more colorful and vibrant pieces.
Two of my can’t-live-without items for spring would be a wide brim straw hat and a good denim jacket. Throw them on with any outfit and you’re good to go. These platform sandals from ABLE have a comfortable fit and go with nearly everything from sundresses to cut-off shorts or jeans. Check out my tips below for mixing patterns this spring!
- Opposites Attract. With the exception of deliberately matched sets (my favorite ever), wearing similar patterns doesn’t really work. Instead, balance prints that are vastly different. For example: pair menswear-inspired stripes with something floral and feminine. Also try mixing different textures and shapes.
- Keep Your Accessories Neutral. If you’ve already got a lot going on with your prints, opt for a neutral bag and shoes. This prevents your accessories from distracting from your overall look.
- Keep pieces within the same aesthetic. For example, my gingham romper and top both have a retro 50’s vibe. For a more modern look, try pairing a geometric pants with a tie-dye graphic shirt. It gives the outfit a more cohesive look.
- Try Sticking to the Same Color Family. Hesitant about Mixing Prints? Staying in a singular palette will keep your outfit from looking sloppy or thrown together. If your main piece is warm and bright, reach for complementary patterns that are in the same color family.
Lastly, the most important thing is to be confident in what you’re wearing. Hopefully these guidelines will help you feel more comfortable with mixing prints this season! Are you into this trend? What are your favorite prints to mix? Leave them in the comments below!
