One of the best decisions we’ve made in our house was changing our breakfast nook to a more functional living/work space! We were finding that the two of us ate most of our meals at the kitchen counter, and when we had company we defaulted to the dining room. The breakfast nook wasn’t being used, but it has some of the prettiest natural light in the whole house.
We took out the table and chairs and added our dream leather couch. We purchased it locally at Bliss Home and it has a perfect light brown tone. We also added a new light fixture, coffee table and a Moroccan pouf. Another thought behind this decision is that when baby is here, I can block the room off and make it more of a ‘play area’ since his playroom (bonus room) is upstairs. This is a great, centrally located room which will allow me to have eyes on him while getting things done around the house.
For now, I am enjoying it as my work space! We have a home office, but I’ve never been much of a desk gal. I love sitting on this couch in the morning with a cup of coffee while I answer emails and prepare for my day.
We need to talk about this AMAZING rug situation. How incredible is this authentic Moroccan rug from my friend’s brand Zarabi Collectif?? It’s now one of my favorite focal points of the room. She has an incredible collection of handpicked relics from the souks of Africa. I love the character and stories that each piece holds.
I layered the vintage rug with this jute rug from Amazon. I’ve purchased several jute rugs over the years and highly recommend this one. It doesn’t leave a dusty residue on the floor. I love how the textures in both of the rugs make the room feel warm and inviting.
I encourage you to think outside the box when it comes to your home! If there’s a room that doesn’t serve the phase of life you’re in, change it to something totally different. We also just turned one of our guest rooms into my closet/styling room and are so happy with the functionality of the new space.
